When attempting to create a Node to Node 1D connection using an RBE2 element
type and selecting the Target Nodes using the Smart Filter option of Element
Edge and Feature Edge Nodes, the edges of my solid elements will not select.
Why won't NX allow my solid element edges to be selected?
Solution
The solid elements were most likely generated using a 2D mesh as a seed mesh
or by using the Solid from Shell Mesh tool. The solid elements do not
have a free edge or free face when using selection techniques that compute
them from the Whole Model. The free edges or free faces reside on the 2D
mesh. The workaround is to do one of the following:
1. Delete the 2D meshes used as the seed mesh (usually an undesirable option)
2. Before using the Smart Filter, hide the 2D mesh. After setting Feature
Edge Nodes, select the small blue arrow to the right of the filter option,
which is called Smart Selector Options. On the Smart Selector Options Menu,
set the Free Edge Computation option from Whole Model to Visible Model. This
will compute the free edges by using the visible elements (which is the 3D
elements). This will allow the nodes on the 3D element free edges to be
selected.
