Assume we are using NX Thermal/Flow, Electronic Systems Cooling or Space Systems Thermal. Sometimes it seems when doing Post Processing there's additional elements that have been created. For example the .FEM model includes only 3D solid elements but in post processing there's also 2D elements. Furthermore in the MSGF file there's a message as follows:
Note: During the analysis process a number of elements have been created whose labels you may not recognize. To find out more about these elements and the elements they are associated with, please look on file REPF for the phrase 'TMG element'.
What is the explanation for this behavior?
Solution
For boundary conditions the 3D solid elements need to be surface coated with 2D elements. If the surface is not manually coated by 2D null shell elements in the .FEM then the solver creates these elements on the fly. Hence the model element IDs/labels don't correspond with those in post processing. It is recommended to coat the surfaces on which the boundary conditions are applied to ensure that the element IDs reported by the model and post processing are the same.
