If you want to create and use custom wires in Solid Edge Harness design.
Trying editing the wire.txt file in preference folder but still not able to create it.



Solution

You can create new wires using 'SEConductors.txt' located in '<Drive>:\Program Files\Solid Edge ST9\Preferences' folder.


Those custom wires would be available for all new files will be created.
 
Steps:


- Ensure Solid Edge application is closed
- Open 'SEConductors.txt' from '<Drive>:\Program Files\Solid Edge ST9\Preferences' folder in Notepad
- Copy existing wire below 'BeginWires' line and paste it before 'EndWires' > edit the wire parameters > SAVE.




e.g.




BeginWires
10-gage Solid Copper Red; 0.00259; 10; ; 0.00341; ; Solid; Copper; 0.04713; 0.00259; 255 <-- Select + Copy
55-gage Solid Copper Blue; 0.00259; 10; ; 0.00341; ; Solid; Copper; 0.04713; 0.00259; 16711680 <--  Paste & Edit
EndWires


Note –Do not add or delete any semicolons. Last number in line indicates color of the wire.


- Save the file > Close
- Open Solid Edge new assembly document
- Start Tools > Environs > Harness wizard > Create new wire
- In select wire step the newly created custom wire '55-gage Solid Copper Blue' will be available to use.
 


Next time when you create new harness assembly file; the custom created wire/ Cables will be available for use.
