A series of holes will be drilled around the outside of a round part. Each hole is concentric with the hole on the opposite side.
When Find Feature is run from the Machining Feature Navigator the concentric hole on the opposite side is combined into a single feature.
This can be seen when a single hole feature is selected and both holes are highlighted at the same time.
Because the concentric holes are considered a single feature NX will not drill the hole from both ends. Instead it drills both holes all the way through from one side.
To produce a more accurate hole it would be better to drill from both sides. What can be done when running Find Features to keep from including both concentric holes into a single feature?
Set the Maximum Merge Factor to a value that when multiplied times the drilled hole diameter will be smaller than the gap between the holes. This value can be set in Manufacturing Preferences.
It can also be set in Customer Defaults.
When the Maximum Merge Factor value is reduced from 6 to 4 in this sample the hole features are no longer combined.
