When creating Structure Designer assemblies in a Teamcenter managed session, it is possible to control the item type used for structure members. How is the item type used for Reusable parts (For example,  Mounting feet or Ladders) defined or controlled?

Solution

Currently the item type used for Reusable objects added in the Structure Designer application will use the default item as defined in Teamcenter. This is controlled by the Teamcenter preference TC_default_part_type. Typically this will be "item", but can be changed to be a different item type. This is different behaviour from when reusable parts/ product template part are added from the general reuse library which uses the Product Template item type.

Existing enhancement request ER 10852207 is for there to be a specific option to control the item type use by Reusable parts in Structure Designer.

Note, there is an exception to the behaviour if a reusable part has already been added to an assembly in the session. In this scenario the item type used for the reusable components in Structure Designer will be changed to the type used for the last added Product Template.  When NX is subsequently restarted the item type used will then revert back to the default part type.
