How to create custom checks for PMI Advisor?

Solution

1) Enable "Allow Configuration of Checks" in the "PMI General/Setup" Customer Defaults.

2) Select "Menu > PMI > Advisor > Configuration" to open the PMI Advisor Configuration dialog.

3) Select "Save Configuration As" and enter a new "Configuration Name".

4) Select which area you want to create your checks, for instance "Datum Feature Symbol" and then select "Add Custom Check" to open the Add Custom Check dialog.

5) Enter a "Display Name", "Description" and "Alert Message".  Check "Apply Rule" if you want your rule to be immediately used, choose which Standards your rule is applicable to and then choose a "Failure Level".

6) Select "Define Rule" to open the Logic Editor.

7) Insert nodes in the Logic Editor to define your rule.  The movie captures the nodes that can be used to flag Datum Feature Symbols that have not been associated to model geometry.  Select "Finish" to return to the Add Custom Check dialog and select OK to return to the PMI Advisor Configuration dialog.

8)  Confirm your new rule now appears under the category you chose in step 4 (custom checks are denoted with an asterisk).  Select OK and OK the warning advising you that changes made in configuration are not applied until the next PMI Advisor run.

9) Select "Menu > PMI > Advisor > Advise" to execute your new custom check.
