In this example, a customer has a Solid Edge Sheet Metal part and is trying to use the 'Extend profile' option in the Jog command, but finds it does not work as expected.
The design in question is a sheet metal tab with a "U" shaped cutout that will be used for the Jog feature.
The user defines the Jog profile as a line between the 'U' shaped cutout with the expectation of that the 'Extend profile' option will jog the inner part of the cutout.
When the command is finished an error message 'Operation unsuccessful' is shown. How can the user get the desired outcome?
The jog cannot be created with a partial line, it has to be connected to the edges of the Cutout, hence why it is giving an error message.
In order to achieve a correct jog the profile would need be extended to the nearest edge as shown below:
This will allow for a jog of the inner part of the cutout profile as shown below:
Below, is a screenshot that shows the 'Extend profile' option under Bend Options for the Jog.
To clarify the behavior of 'Extend profile', if it is already at an edge then it does not extend further unless specified. In our example, if you want the jog to include the outer profile of the U shape as well as the inner profile, then the profile line would have to be drawn across the profile of the cutout.
Consequently, this would be the result with the 'Extend profile' option on:
Whereas, this would be the output with the 'Extend profile' option off:
