Create a Spiral Profile Tool Path with a User Defined Tool to Finish Undercut in Contour

Solution

Review the movie above...

Please note the steps below...displayed in the attached movie.

- Create a curve that offsets exactly 1/2 the diameter of the tool (be sure the tracking point is accounted for) Please see image below.

- Create a Spiral

   - Select the "Reuse Libray" tab on the "Resource Toolbar".

    - Expand Reusable Object Library (Example Only).

    - Expand "Inch".

    - Select Spiral.

Please see image below....

- When defining the Spiral, make sure the Spiral is inside the 'Offset Curve" as seen below.

- Parameters for Spiral

r = radius of first curve of spiral

n = turns in the spiral

For this example... r = .05   n= 3

The distance from the end point of the outer spiral to the offset curve for the toolpath must be captured.

Use Optimization to create the desired formula...

This desired value - = 0.0000

Go to Optimization... set p16 Target Value to 0.000

Select the variables Tab.

r'3 - select the expression .05 (the initial value of r=.05

Set the upper limit to 1.

Note that the end point of the spiral ends on the offset curve. Please see the image below...
