Is it possible to add more than one material to the same Sold Edge part?

Solution

It is not possible to add more than one Material to a Solid Edge part model.  However, there are alternative methods to achieve a similar result:

1. Using Family of Parts (FOP):
In Solid Edge 2023, changes were made to the Family of Parts (FOP) feature, allowing users to add materials to each member definition.  By using Family of Parts (FOP) and populating the members, each member will have the material defined in the Family of Parts (FOP) table.

2. Using Multi-body:
To achieve a similar result with Multi-body parts, follow these steps:
- Create a Multi-body part and publish each body separately.
- Open each body part file individually, add the desired material to each of them, and save.

Alternatively, open the Multi-body part containing all bodies, publish the bodies, and then go to the Data Management tab. Click on the Property Manager.
- In the table, you will see the parent file and the published ones listed.  Add the Material column to view the materials.
- Select the material for each published part file.
- The published files contain the corresponding body as a linked Part Copy, so any edits made in the parent Multi-body part are reflected there.

In summary, it is not possible to add more than one material to a model part other than using Multi-body or Family of Parts.
