Details

A customer reported that Solid Edge crashes when saving a specific assembly file. The issue occured with assembly files originally created in Solid Edge ST8 and being opened in SE2024. The problem was reproducible on both the customer's and support engineer's machines.

Solution

The crash logs indicated that the Annot.DEX file was causing the crash when saving.

This Annot.DEX file is related to the PMI (Product and Manufacturing Information) annotations within the assembly. To resolve this:

1. Open the Assembly in Solid Edge:

  • Open the problematic assembly file.

    2. Identify Faulty PMI Dimensions:

    • In the Pathfinder, expand the PMI annotations section.
      • Identify and locate the PMI dimensions that show errors - the red exclamation (!) marks:

        3. Delete Faulty PMI Dimensions:

        • Select and delete the sick PMI dimensions that are causing errors:

          4. Save the Assembly:

          • Save the assembly file. The crash should no longer occur.

By following the above steps to delete the faulty PMI dimensions, users should be able to save their assembly files without experiencing crashes. Ensure to verify all PMI annotations in opened assemblies to prevent similar issues.
