NX will not start. 

NX application will not start giving error messages including (but not limited to):

Error Handling Failed - General Fault Exception


Fatal initialization error - Terminating due to uncaught exception


Start failure - ERROR: Failed to start application UGManager


Solution

This can sometimes be due to a problem with the UGII_USER_PROFILE_DIR folder. This is the folder which stores the user specific NX information such a the screen layout, customer defaults, dialog memory etc. 

If there is a problem reading or accessing these files it can prevent NX from successfully starting. 

To identify whether this is the cause of the startup failure you can temporarily remove the contents of the user profile folder.

Typically the folder used for the User profile information is C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Siemens\NXnnnn
(where %username% is the currently logged in user and NXnnnn is the version of NX being used, e.g. NX2312 or NX2406. 

To correct or identify the problem you should delete (or move to a temporary location) the contents of the user profile folder.

Please note. Do not delete the folder (e.g. NX2406) itself. If the folder does not exist and NX finds a user profile folder from an earlier version it will copy the files from the existing folder and migrate them to the new version.  Whilst this is generally useful it can also copy problem files from earlier versions.
Leaving the folder empty will cause NX to recreate all of the necessary files from fresh, ensuring everything is valid.

If NX starts successfully after removing the contents of the folder, you can continue to work as is, or you can gradually reintroduce the original files to the folder until the problematic file is identified. Then if needed contact the support team for further diagnosis of the issue with the files.
