Customers have reported a sudden increase in the number of licenses being used after updating from older versions of Solid Edge to newer versions. The issue is causing some users to be unable to open Solid Edge due to the license limit being reached. This behavior was not observed with older versions of Solid Edge.
Solution1. Understanding the Issue:
- Solid Edge utilizes a floating license system where each user's session sends a periodic "heartbeat" signal to the Flex license server. This signal helps the server confirm that the user is actively using their license.
- An issue in older versions of Solid Edge running older versions of the Flex license server caused the heartbeat signal to stop after 15 minutes, which led the server to incorrectly return licenses to the pool. This allowed more users to access licenses than were actually available, resulting in under-reported license usage.
- This issue was fixed in newer versions of the Flex licensing software.
2. Updated License Server Requirements:
- Newer versions of Solid Edge require an updated version of the Flex license server, which includes the fix for the heartbeat issue. Therefore, license usage is now accurately reported, leading to an apparent increase in the number of licenses in use.
