Summary

Details

Users encounter an issue where files become read-only unexpectedly during editing. A secondary file with the extension .selock is created in the same directory as the original file. This .selock file prevents the original file from being edited. The issue is persistent until the .selock file is deleted.

Solution

The .selock file is generated when the "distributed file access" option is enabled in Solid Edge Manage options. This feature ensures file integrity when Solid Edge files are shared across cloud storage solutions such as Dropbox or OneDrive.

To resolve the issue and regain edit access to the original file:

1. Identify the Lock:

  • Open the .selock file using a text editor.
    • The .selock file will display the user and machine that locked the file.

      2. Delete the .selock File:

      • Locate the .selock file in the same directory as the original file.
        • Delete the .selock file to restore edit access to the original file.

          3. Prevent Future Occurrences:

          • Ensure that the "distributed file access" option is enabled if you are sharing files through cloud storage.

            • This setting helps maintain file integrity and prevents conflicts.

By following these steps, users can resolve the read-only issue and continue working on their files without interruptions.
