Details

Users need to calculate the total surface area of all visible surfaces in a Solid Edge. The existing tools allow checking the surface area of individual surfaces, but do not provide a way to select all visible surfaces at once and see the total surface area in the Properties Manager.

Solution

In Solid Edge, users can calculate the total surface area of all visible surfaces and display this information in the Properties Manager by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Inspect tab and select 3D Measure -> Measure.
    1. In the Measure toolbar, change the Element Types to Faces.
      1. Use the window select tool to select all the surfaces.
        1. A dialog box will display the total surface area of the selected surfaces.
          1. Click the Measurement Variable button to save the measurement result as a variable.
            1. In the Measurement Variable window, uncheck all measurements except Surface Area.
              1. Rename the Surface Area value to a suitable name (e.g., MySurfaceArea) and click OK.
                1. Go to Tools -> Variables and expose the measurement value.

Now, the total surface area of the selected faces will be visible in the Properties Manager.
