A customer attempted to add a new font, "Grotesque MT Std Light Condensed," to their Solid Edge library by placing it in the Windows Fonts folder. However, the font did not work in Solid Edge. On inspection, it was found that the font's embeddability was set to "Print and Preview," which prevents it from being used in Solid Edge.
SolutionThe embeddability of a font is essentially it's built-in security copyright protection feature to prevent sharing and reuse of a font. There are four levels of font embeddability:
Restricted - Font cannot be embedded in a document.
Solid Edge requires fonts to be permanently installed and legally available for editing. Fonts categorized as "Print and Preview" can only be used temporarily for viewing and printing purposes and are not suitable for use in Solid Edge.
Verify Font Embeddability:
Use an Appropriate Font:
Purchase a version of the font with the embeddability level set to "Installable."
Optional Tools:
There are free utilities available that can change the embeddability level of a font. However, using these tools may violate copyright laws and is not supported by Solid Edge or Siemens PLM.
To use a font in Solid Edge, it must be "Installable" and legally available for editing. If a font is categorized as "Print and Preview," it cannot be used in Solid Edge. Customers should purchase the correct version of the font or use supported methods to convert the font's embeddability level, keeping in mind legal implications.
