Summary

Details

After exporting two 3D models with threaded holes to STEP format, the threads in one model are visible while they disappear in the other upon re-importing the STEP files.

Solution

The issue occurs because the underlying face color for the thread style is different between the two files. Follow these steps to ensure the thread remains visible:

Verify the Correctly Displayed Threads File

  • Open the correct file.
    • Select the Styles command.

Select the Thread style and click Modify….

      • Go to the Faces tab.

        Note the Diffuse color (blue/green).

Update the Incorrectly Displayed Threads File

        • Open the incorrect file.
          • Select the Styles command.
            • Select the Thread style and click Modify….
              • Go to the Faces tab.
                • Note the Diffuse color (grey).
                  • Change the Diffuse color to another color (e.g., red).
                    • Apply the style changes and exit the Style command.
                      • Export the file again as STEP.
                        • Import the new STEP file.

The thread color should now be the color you changed in the Thread style's Diffuse setting.

By ensuring that the Diffuse colors match or are set to a visible color, the thread visibility issue can be resolved.
