When creating hyperlinks in a drawing template and generating a PDF document in Solid Edge, the hyperlinks are inactive in the resulting PDF. The customer is seeking a solution to generate PDFs with active hyperlinks.
SolutionCurrently, Solid Edge does not support printing URL links in the draft output to the PDF file format. However, the Adobe PDF Reader tool has functionality to interpret text found in the PDF as a hyperlink and convert it into a working link.
To enable active hyperlinks in the PDF document, follow these steps:
1. Open Adobe Reader and go to Edit -> Preferences -> General.
2. Ensure that the "Create links from URLs" setting is enabled.
3. In Solid Edge Draft, modify the hyperlink text to simply include the URL without making it identifiable as a web string. For example, change "sw.siemens.com/" to "https://www.sw.siemens.com/".
4. Save the changes and generate the PDF document using Solid Edge.
5. Open the PDF document in Adobe Reader, and the modified text string will be recognized as a hyperlink and allow you to open it.
Please note that this solution relies on the functionality of Adobe Reader, and it may not work with other PDF readers. Additionally, keep in mind that Solid Edge currently does not natively support the direct publishing of URLs/hyperlinks into PDF files.
