NX Can a part from a Functional Release of NX be opened in a Monthly Update release.

With the new 'NX Series' continuous releases, can a part from new Functional Release NX2306 be opened in the Monthly Update (MU) release of NX2212?

No, the NX2306 part cannot be opened in NX2212 or any of the Monthly updates, it will raise the error "Part is from a newer version of NX than this one".

The Functional Releases will have a newer Parasolid version that are not backward compatible. The part can be opened between the Monthly Updates for the NX release that the part was created in, and in newer NX Releases.
