For a Standard Parts database migration from version 2021 to 2023, is it necessary to have a database user with sysadmin role?
SolutionWhen installing or upgrading Solid Edge Standard Parts 2022 or newer it is mandatory to have a user with sysadmin role.
Parts Management attempts to connect to the database using a specific user, e.g. "cadpartner123". If the connection fails because the user does not exist, it prompts to enter the administrator credentials to access the database. Those credentials are then used to create the "cadpartner123" user which is only possible with sysadmin role. The sysadmin credentials are not stored anywhere and the user "cadpartner123" is used for all subsequent operations.
The "cadpartner123" login has only a public server role, not a sysadmin role.
In other words, the sysadmin role is only needed once for a Standard Parts installation version 2022 or newer to be able to create that DBuser "cadpartner123". For further installations the new DBuser "cadpartner123" will be used and no sysadmin role is necessary as long as that user exists. Any further migrations will be done using the "cadpartner123" DBuser.
NotesAfter the DBuser "cadpartner123" is created, the sysadmin role is no longer needed and can be removed or disabled.
