Summary

Details

Working in assembly context. Selection Preferences are set to Selection Rule: Inside

Selection filter is set to Component

Only the threaded hole part of a component is inside the selection rectangle.

Yet the component is selected.

- Why does this happen?

Solution

The short answer is that when an entire object (thread symbol for the threaded hole), which belongs to the component, is entirely inside the selection rectangle, the component will be selected.

Here are some other examples where selecting an object within a component, that falls entirely within the rectangle selection, will highlight/select the entire component.

- If you add a sketch to a face of a component, include it in the current reference set and use selection rectangle selecting the area including the entire sketch, but crossing the component. The component will be selected.

- If you have a separate body, like a block for instance (yellow in the picture above), away from the original component body in the component part and include it in the current reference set. If you use the  selection rectangle, ensuring that the entire (yellow) body is included in the selection and only part of the component main body. The result is that selecting the (yellow) body entirely (and the component body partially), selects the entire component.

This behavior have been there in NX for a long time and still is present in the latest version of NX
