Solution

Using the Thread Command

1. Choose the Home tab -> Base group -> More -> Thread.

2. In the Thread dialog, from the drop-down menu select either Detailed or Symbolic.

3. Select the face of the cylinder.

4. If necessary, under the Start group, choose Select Start Object and choose the desired starting object.

5. Under the Form, Limit, and Settings groups, alter the settings as desired.

6. Click OK.

7. In the Part Navigator, select the Thread feature.

8. Under the Details group, take note of the variable names corresponding to the expressions. These will be used to create the part family.

- Note: These expressions are not available in previous versions of NX.

Creating a Part Family

1. Choose the Tools tab -> Utilities group -> Part Families.

2. In the Part Families dialog, choose Create Part Family.

3. Under the Spreadsheet Columns group, set Available Columns to Expressions.

4. Locate and select the desired expressions that will be changed to create the part family.

- Note: The Thread Standard, Thread Size, and Radial Engage expressions can now be added. Thread Standard and Thread Size must be entered as String.

5. Under the Actions subgroup, select Add at End/Add after Selected Column.

- Note: To rearrange the columns, right click the expression in the Chosen Columns table and select Move Up/Move Down. Double clicking will remove the expression.

6. In first two columns, specify the part file name and the part name.

7. Alter the expressions as desired.

8. Select the row and choose Verify Part for all new parts.

9. Click OK.
