Summary

Details

In this example, Solid Edge Wiring and Harness Design does not start.

Looking into the Electrical Manger log file the following error is reported:

FATAL Electrical - org.omg.CORBA.ORBPackage.InvalidName:IDL:omg.org/CORBA/ORB/InvaldName:1.0

Solution

When Solid Edge Wiring and Harness Design (SEWHD) has been installed as a Two Tier installation (Client/Server), the error message in the log file typically means that a client is unable to make a connection to Electrical Manager due to one of the following reasons:

  • Electrical Manager is not running on the server.
    • The Electrical Manager server machine is down.
      • If it is a network issue preventing the client from connecting to Electrical Manager, here are some reasons this might be the case:
        • The company firewall is blocking the application.
          • Ports are blocked that the client application is trying to use.
            • The clientprops.xml entry “iorconnection url” on the client, may need the fully qualified domain name of the Manager server machine as opposed to just its hostname.

The user needs to check the connection between the client and Electrical Manager server to make sure a connect can be made using the correct server address and port that is configured for the environment.

If this is a new installation there is one additional check that can be done on the server:

It may be that SEWHD has been installed as Complete (stand alone) on the server.  This means Electrical Manager will be running in local mode and will only accept local client connections. If so, you need to configure Electrical Manager to run in remote mode to accept remote connections. To do this you will need to edit the managerprops.xml file found in the config folder of the installation.

            • Around line 28 of managerprops.xml you will find the entry iorconnection.
              • The mode for iorconnection should be set to remote.  If it is set to local, you need to remove it and set it to remote
                • See the example below:

                  iorconnection mode="remote"

                  • Save the file.
                    • Restart Electrical Manager.
                      • Try to connect with the client.
