Solid Edge How to Upgrade a Server Based Standard Parts Installation to Version 2024

I need to upgrade a Standard Parts database from Solid Edge version 2022 or 2023 to version 2024.

This is an overview of what you need to do to upgrade a Solid Edge Standard Parts server based installation from version 2022 or 2023 to version 2024.

On the server:

Solid Edge Standard Parts software version 2022, 2023 and 2024 provide and make use of Microsoft SQL Server 2017, hence there is no need to change anything on the server machine.

On the system that is used as the Standard Parts Administrator:

- Uninstall Siemens Solid Edge Standard Parts Library.

    This does not delete any parts from the database - only the delivery database.

- Uninstall Solid Edge Standard Parts Administrator 2023.

    This does not delete the Standard Parts database or any parts.

- Uninstall Siemens Solid Edge 2023

- Restart the system

- Install Siemens Solid Edge 2024.

    Do not deploy settings and preferences.

- Install Solid Edge Standard Parts Administrator 2024.

    Uncheck all Master Parts.

- Install the latest update for Solid Edge 2024.

- Start Parts Management Administrator

    The system puts all existing information like folder names and database names in here.

-  Save settings

The database is now ready to use but some parts might need an update.

When a new version of the Solid Edge application is installed also the Standard Parts libraries should be upgraded by new deliverables.  See also Which Standard Parts versions are delivered with Solid Edge?

- Install Standard Parts Library parts.

    Make sure to only select those standards you need.

    Do not add those parts to the database in this step if you like feedback on which parts need an update.

- Start Database Administrator and click 'Upgrade'.

    Instructions are displayed in the dialogue.

The Standard Parts are now updated and the database is ready to use.

On all systems that are using Standard Parts:

- Make sure Solid Edge 2024 and the latest update is installed.

- In Solid Edge options on the file locations tab make sure the Standard Parts configuration points to PMGlobalSettings.pmsx on the server.
