There is an issue that can impact users of Solid Edge 2024 who are working in a managed Solid Edge Embedded Client (SEEC) environment whereby duplicate PDF datasets are created under Item Revisions. This issue only occurs when using Teamcenter Rapid Start.
In Teamcenter Rapid Start the SEEC_Save_Translation preference has been set for PDF as follows:
3:pdf:IMAN_specification:PDF:PDF_Reference:1:
Please note, IMAN_manifestation could alternatively be defined - the result will be the same.
In Solid Edge, the user creates a Solid Edge drawing and saves it to Teamcenter.
In Teamcenter they search for the Item and see that under the Item Revision (A) a PDF has been generated as expected.
In Solid Edge they revise the Solid Edge drawing and upload it.
The next time they check the Teamcenter RAC, under the new revision (B) they see two PDF datasets exist - one that is for Revision B, but also a duplicate of the one from Revision A.
The reason for the duplication of the PDF is due to an incorrect Deep Copy action being set by default.
This can be resolved in the Business Modeler (BMIDE).
Open your Item Revision and go to the Deep Copy Rules tab.
Add a new Deep Copy Rule:
Define the 'Operation Type' as 'Revise'.
Define the 'Relation' as 'IMAN_specification' (or 'IMAN_manifestation' if you are using this value).
Define 'PDF' as the 'Attached Business Object'.
Finally, make sure that 'Action' is set to 'CopyAsReference'.
Save and deploy your BMIDE template.
Subsequently, you will not get duplicate PDF datasets when revising Item Revisions.
NotesAs previously stated, this issue only occurs when using Solid Edge in conjunction with Teamcenter Rapid Start - not with a full version of Teamcenter.
