In this article. we shall consider which command should be used to retrieve the hostid, i.e. Ethernet/MAC address, Composite ID (CID) or Composite2 ID on Windows or Linux.
Note: The term "hostid" simply refers to a number we can use for licensing. For Floating licenses you always need either an Ethernet Address (also called a MAC Address) or a Composite ID (CID).
For Node Locked licenses in Solid Edge you will need a Composite2 ID.
SolutionRevenera, the provider of the FlexNet licensing software on which SALT is based, has significantly changed the system values it will accept with its recent FlexNet 11.19 update. Please make sure you are using the latest versions of the utilities for obtaining a valid hostid for licensing. Siemens Digital Industries Software have packaged the hostid utilities for download from Support Center.
The SiemensLicenseServer_v2.4.0.0_hostid_utils.zip package contains utilities for both Windows and Linux.
Once the zipfile is unpacked, you will see a tool that is called getcid.exe. You need to run the tool within a command prompt, while you are already in the directory where the tool resides.
