Users of Solid Edge versions prior to V220 (Solid Edge 2020) require assistance with configuring floating licensing.
SolutionIdentifying a license server
The license server is the computer on your network on which the Solid Edge License Manager
software will reside. The license server can be any computer on your network that is running a
32-bit or 64-bit operating system supported by FlexNet Publisher, a component of the Solid Edge
License Manager software.
The license server can also be a machine that runs Solid Edge. However, in this configuration, the
operating system must be supported by Solid Edge. Review the Solid Edge readme.htm file or the
System Requirements chapter of this guide for a list of operating systems supported with Solid Edge.
The License Manager server and the client machines must be running the TCP/IP protocol and must
be able to communicate with one another over the network.
Installing and configuring the License Manager
Once you have identified a computer that will serve your licenses, you must install Solid Edge
License Manager on that computer. License Manager is available for installation from your Solid
Edge installation media. FlexNet Publisher software (SEFlex) is installed for you as part of the
installation of License Manager.
Note
If you did not specify your license file during Solid Edge License Manager installation, you
will need to follow the steps below to configure the software.
1. Copy your license file (SElicense.dat) to the \SEFlex\Program folder.
Note
The license file must be edited to contain the machine name of the computer running
License Manager. Locate SERVER and replace this_host with the name of the license
server. The remainder of the information should not be edited.
2. In the \SEFlex\Program folder, double-click lmtools.exe to display the LMTOOLS dialog box.
3. On the Service/License File page, click Configuration Using Services.
Ensure that FlexNet License Manager is highlighted in the list.
4. On the Config Services page, specify the location of the lmgrd.exe file, the product license
file, SElicense.dat, and the Debug.log file.
5. Select the Use Services check box and the Start Server at Power Up check box.
6. Click Save Service.
If you are prompted to save the FlexNet settings, click Yes.
7. On the Start/Stop/Reread page, click Start Server.
Loading Solid Edge for use with Floating licenses
1. Install Solid Edge on each client machine.
During installation, you have the option to browse to the location of your Solid Edge license file.
You can supply the information during or after installation.
2. To supply the location of the license file during installation, browse to the SELicense.dat file
and click Open.
3. In the InstallShield Wizard, click Install. When the installation is complete you are ready to
use Solid Edge.
Note
If you do not have a copy of your license file saved to disk, follow the instructions for
downloading SELicense.dat, or contact the person responsible for managing licenses
to determine the license file location or licensing process.
Another way to point the client computer to the license server, please, use the following Utility.
In this window, you can choose the option "I have a License Server name":
