Is there a file size limit for the Solid Edge file format?
SolutionThe Solid Edge file format is based upon the Microsoft COM structured storage format - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/stg/structured-storage-start-page
This Microsoft structured storage format has a maximum file size of 2 GB - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/stg/structured-storage-interfaces
Therefore a Solid Edge file cannot be larger than 2 GB in size.
If a Solid Edge file exceeds this 2 GB limit, the file will become corrupted and will longer be able to be saved.
To recover a file that has exceeded the 2 GB file limit, reduce the number of elements / content in the file then perform a Save As operation to a new file name.
You can further reduce the file size by turning off "Store preview" - https://docs.sw.siemens.com/en-US/doc/246738425/PL20220830878154140.manufacture/prop1a
If a Solid Edge draft file you can reduce the file size even further by turning off "Include Draft Viewer data in file" - https://docs.sw.siemens.com/en-US/doc/246738425/PL20220830878154140.manufacture/genopt5d
