Customer would like to analyze the In-Process Workpiece (IPW) from a manufacturing setup. Can we get the weight and other properties of that body?

Solution

The IPW is a facet body, so what we can do with that is quite limited. However, this can be converted to a convergent body and worked with in modeling.

1) Use right click; Workpiece; Save As in manufacturing to save a copy of the IPW from the manufacturing operation in its own prt file.

2) Open this IPW model .prt file in NX modeling.

3) Menu; Edit; Facet Body; Convert

Make sure to set the Facet Body Type to 'convergent' and pick the IPW facet body:

4) Go to the Analysis tab on the modeling ribbon and use Assign Materials to assign a material to the new convergent body.

5) Turn on the Mass Properties panel using the toggle on the ribbon, if it is not already enabled:

6) Open the Mass Properties panel in the part navigator.

7) Select the convergent body in the part navigator.

8) Hit the Update button in the Mass Properties panel to get the values for mass, weight, etc:
