How to deploy NX and Mentor Graphics license files (required for the Intel Quartus software), using the Siemens License Server...

To deploy both NX/Teamcenter and Mentor/Intel-Quartus license files, using the Siemens License Server, use the procedure outlined below:

1. Download the latest version of the Siemens License Server from the Siemens Support Center.

2. Take a copy of the 'alterad.exe' (vendor daemon) from the existing Mentor license server installation.

3. Stop and uninstall the existing 'PLM License Server' and 'Mentor License Server'.

4. Install the Siemens License Server (SLS) by running the SiemensLicenseServer_v######_Win64_x86-64.exe (with Windows Administrator privileges) and select the NX/Teamcenter license file (License_Ugslmd.txt).

When the installation process is complete the NX/Teamcenter license will be located in the folder 'C:\ProgramData\Siemens\License Server\ActiveLicenses' and named 'ugslmd.lic', by default.

The SERVER and VENDOR lines within the license file are edited during the installation process to use the new vendor daemon (saltd) and the network port numbers specified during the installation process (which are 29000 & 29001, by default).

(Note: The option exists to use the existing/legacy port number '28000' (during the installation process), but '29000' will be the default for Siemens DISW product licenses going forward.)

The SERVER and VENDOR lines will have the following format:

SERVER LIC_SERVER_HOSTNAME COMPOSITE=1234567890AB 29000                              

VENDOR saltd saltd PORT=29001

5. Check that the NX/Teamcenter users can obtain a license. Edit the existing license server environment variable, on the client workstations, to use the new port number (if you have changed it), for example SPLM_LICENSE_SERVER=29000@LIC_SERVER_HOSTNAME

6. To deploy the Mentor/Intel-Quartus license, edit the SERVER and VENDOR lines in the license file as shown below : 

SERVER LIC_SERVER_HOSTNAME 0011223344AA 29000
VENDOR alterad alterad PORT=27002
VENDOR saltd saltd PORT=29001

            Note: The ports specified on the SERVER and 'saltd' VENDOR lines (29000 & 29001) must be the same in both the NX and Mentor license files.

            The port number for the 'alterad' vendor daemon must be different, so you can use the existing port number '27002'.

            The MAC Address on the SERVER line is compatible with the Siemens License Server.

Place the edited license file alongside the 'ugslmd.lic' file in the 'C:\ProgramData\Siemens\License Server\ActiveLicenses' folder, and name it 'mgcld.lic'.

7. Place the 'alterad.exe' vendor daemon (copied in step 2 above) into the Siemens License Server installation folder 'C:\Program Files\Siemens\License Server' (alongside the 'saltd.exe' and 'lmgrd.exe').

8. Stop and Start the 'Siemens License Server' service (via 'Windows Services'). This will start the 'alterad' vendor daemon and read the license file.

9. Check the license server log file for any errors, C:\ProgramData\Siemens\License Server\saltd.log

10. Edit the existing license server environment variables, on the client workstations, to use the new port number (if you changed it), for example MGLS_LICENSE_FILE=29000@LIC_SERVER_HOSTNAME and add the system environment variable SALT_LICENSE_SERVER=29000@LIC_SERVER_HOSTNAME
