It is not possible to referencing the Material Part Attribute in Technical Data Package Templates.   When browsing available Material Part Attributes, the Material 'alias' is not listed.

Solution

The solution is to disable 'Create Part Material Attribute' in the Customer Defaults.  This allows you to create Material as a Part Attribute in the Technical Data Package template, which can then be referenced by the Text command.  Once the Text has been added to the template, re-enable the 'Create Part Material Attribute' Customer Default.  Detailed steps are as follows:

1) Select "File > Utilities > Customer Defaults > Gateway > Materials/Mass" and select the 'Part Attributes' tab. Under 'Part Material', uncheck 'Create Part Material Attribute', hit OK and Exit NX

2) Restart NX, open your TDP template and select "File > Properties". Create a string attribute and enter the Title "Material" and the value "<No Value>". Category is not required.

3) Select "Menu > Technical Data Package > Text" and select 'Static' from the drop-down menu at the top of the Text dialog. Enter "Material: " in the Text Input window and expand 'Part Attribute' beneath the Text Input window. Select the Insert icon to open the Part Attributes dialog.

4) Select 'Material' from the list of Part Attributes (created in step 2). Hit Ok and place the Text at the desired location in your TDP template and save and close the TDP template part.

5) Select "File > Utilities > Customer Defaults > Gateway > Materials/Mass" and select the 'Part Attributes' tab. Under 'Part Material', check 'Create Part Material Attribute', hit OK and Exit NX. Restart NX and test your TDP template.
