Details

A customer finds that they have an Add-In in their list of 'Available Add-Ins' in the 'Add-In Manager' of Solid Edge that has become corrupted and is therefore not working as expected anymore.

Add-In named IR.Demo.Add.In in the list of 'Available Add-Ins' in the 'Add-In Manager'

Since the creator of the Add-In is not known and there is no routine for uninstalling the Add-In, the customer needs a way to remove the Add-In from the system.

Solution

The faulty Add-In can be removed by executing the following steps:

  • Exit Solid Edge
    • Run the Registry Editor on the operating system
      • Select 'Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Classes > CLSID'
        • Open the context menu of the selected 'CLSID' folder and select 'Find...'
          'Find...' command in the context menu of the selected 'CLSID' folder

          • Type the name of the Add-In (e.g. IR.Demo.Add.In) in the 'Find what' input field
            • Start the search by clicking on the 'Find Next' button
              • Notice that the name of the Add-In will be found in a subfolder (e.g. {BF1xxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxx64B}) of the folder Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID

                • Open the context menu of the selected subfolder and select 'Delete'
                  • Confirm the question "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this key and all of its subkeys?" by clicking on the 'Yes' button
                    • Exit the Registry Editor
                      • Restart the PC
                        Windows Start > Restart

                        • Sign in again
                          • Start Solid Edge
                            • Choose 'File > Settings > Add-Ins'
                              • Notice that the Add-In is now not shown in the list of 'Available Add-Ins' anymore
                                Add-In (e.g. IR.Demo.Add.In) is not shown in the list of 'Available Add-Ins'

                                • Quit the 'Add-In Manager' and exist Solid Edge again
                                  • Run the Registry Editor on the operating system again
                                    • Select the top level 'Computer'
                                      • Select 'Edit > Find...'
                                        • Type the name of the Add-In (e.g. IR.Demo.Add.In) in the 'Find what' input field
                                          • Start the search by clicking on the 'Find Next' button
                                            start another search with the name of the Add-In

                                            • Delete the entry that will be found in the same way as described above.
                                              select the found entry and select 'Delete' in the context menu

                                              • Repeat this 'Find...' and 'Delete' procedure until all entries regarding the specific Add-In in the registry are removed
                                                • Restart the PC and check the result
