Solid Edge An NX part file (*.prt) cannot be opened via the File Explorer in Solid Edge CAM Pro.

A user tries to open an NX part file (*.prt) in Solid Edge CAM Pro via the File Explorer by right mouse clicking on the file and selecting the 'Open' command in the context menu of the selected file.

Whilst the Solid Edge CAM Pro session will be started, it appears the NX part file is not opened as expected.

The situation can be resolved by checking and correcting the default app for the file type .prt (PRT File) via the following steps on the operating system:

• Select the 'Windows Start' icon and choose 'Settings'

• Select the 'Apps' group

• Select 'Default apps'

• Select 'Choose default apps by file type' in the 'Default apps' area

• Scroll to the file type .prt (PRT File)
• Notice the chosen default app (in case of the user it is set to NX)

• Click on the defined default app
• Redefine the default app by selecting 'Siemens Industry Software Inc. Component'

• Close the 'Settings' dialog with the redefined default app

• Double-click respectively open the NX part file via the File Explorer
• The NX part file will now be opened in Solid Edge CAM Pro as expected
