NX Milling Across a Void in a CAM Workpiece using a Patch

A Contour Area milling operation is created to cut across the top of a workpiece. When the tool encounters a void it mills around it. What can be done to make the tool cut across each of these open areas?

One possible solution would be to create a Patch Opening across each of the gaps. This utility is found under the Geometry tab in the CAM module. To create a patch first select the faces adjacent to the void.

After selecting the faces select the adjacent edges

The Patch might look something like this when complete.

Add the patch entity to the Cut Area and regenerate. The tool now completely cuts across the top of the part.
