How to Name a Face and Use ‘Select by Name’
Naming Object Faces
1. With your model opened, select the Tools tab, and find the More dop-down menu within the Utilities group. Select Properties from the More menu.
2. Go to the Selection Filter in the Top Border Bar and choose Face.
3. Select all the desired faces and click Ok.
4. In the Face Properties dialog, select the General tab and in the Name group type in the desired name and click Ok.
5. In the Top Border Bar, choose Menu -> Preferences -> Visualization.
6. In the Visualization Preferences dialog, expand View and choose Decorations.
7. In the Names and Borders group, change Show Object Names to All Views.
- Note: To see the object names more easily, change the object to a wireframe.
Selecting Faces Based on Object Name
1. Right click the Ribbon in an empty space and select Customize.
2. In the Customize dialog type name into the Search bar.
3. Click and drag Name Selection to the desired place in the Top Border Bar or Ribbon tab and click Close.
4. In the Name Selection box, type the name of the faces and hit enter.
5. All faces sharing the entered name will now be selected.
