Converting an internal drawing to a non-master for a Part Family

How to convert an internal drawing to a non-master for a Part Family,

The Part Family Template has the drawing stored in the same part file as the model. How to convert this drawing into a separate non-master drawing for the Part Family Template and its members.

To transfer the internal Drawing to a non-master drawing for the Part Family Template:

1. Open the Part Family Template in NX.

2. Select 'File-->New-->Item'.

3. Select the 'Drawing' tab and highlight a non-master drawing template to use for the non-master drawing.

4. Let NX name the non-master drawing. OK.

5. Once the non-master drawing is created and open, select 'File-->Save'.

6. Make the Part Family Template model the work/displayed part.

7. Switch to the Drafting application.

8. Select 'File-->Export-->Part'.

9. Part Specification = Existing

10. Select the 'Specify Part' button.

11. Browse and select the new non-master drawing dataset (created by 'Save' in step 5) under the Part Family Template's revision in Teamcenter.  OK.

12. Select the 'Drawing Selection' button.

13. Highlight all the sheets to export. OK.

14. Feature Parameters = Retain Internal Parameters

15. Expression Transfer Mode = Link to Originals

16. OK the Export Part dialog.

17. Make the drawing created in step 5 the work/displayed part.

-->Notice all your sheets are now exported to this drawing.

18. Make sure everything is up to date.

NOTE: You may want to delete the initial sheet in the non-master drawing, and just keep the imported sheets from the master.

19. Select 'File-->Save' to save the non-master drawing.You now have all your drawing information transferred from the original Master part to the Non-Master drawing.

After you have confirmed the non-master drawing is complete and behaving successfully, you may consider deleting the drawing from the Drafting application in the Part Family Template. If you wish for the Part Family Members to also no longer contain the drawing, you can update the members.

NOTE:  Once you update the Part Family Members from the Part Family Template, the members will update to no longer have the drawing inside the model part file. If you want the Part Family Template non-master drawing to now also be under the part family members, you could try this article to 'Save As' the Non-Master to a Different Item...and save the non-master part family template drawing to the part family member.
