How to inherit a PMI to an upper-level Assembly/Drawing
Inheriting PMI to an Assembly
1. Open both your part and your assembly and ensure the tab at the top of the graphics screen is selected for your assembly.
- Note: Make sure you’re in the modeling application with PMI turned on.
2. In the Resource Bar, select MBD Query.
3. In the Query group, if Text Based Query is chosen, select Rule Based Query.
4. Select Find Dimension.
5. In the Find Dimension window under the Type group, ensure all your desired types of dimensions are selected.
6. In the Dimension Value group deselect Include Value.
7. In the Scope group, change Scope to All Parts and click Ok.
8. In the MBD Query pop-up click Ok.
9. Your PMI dimensions will appear on the model.
Changing PMI Dimension View Display
1. In MBD Query, under name, expand the part with the dimensions you want to make available in another view.
2. Right click the dimension and choose Display and select either of the following:
- in Views: The PMI dimension will be available in selected views.
- in all Views: The PMI dimension will be available in all views.
3. Click Clear Result.
Inheriting PMI to a Drawing
1. Open your Drawing.
2. Choose Home tab -> View -> Base View.
3. In the Base View window, in the Model View group, select the Model View to Use as the view containing your PMI.
4. In the Settings group, click Settings.
5. In the Base View Settings window, expand Common and select PMI.
6. In the Inherited group, change PMI from None to Aligned to Drawing (Entire Part).
7. Check Show PMI on Drawing and click Ok.
8. Click to place your view with its PMI.
