Teamcenter Unable to open variant configuration view - Compile rule XML parsing has failed

The customer had the problem that he could not open the variant configuration view in the structure manager. The following error message appeared:

"An internal error has occurred in the module Configurator: Compile rule XML parsing has failed. Please refer to syslog for detaied report."

This was a general issue and it happened with newly created configurator contexts attached to a newly created product structure.

In the syslog the following FSC error could be found:

ERROR - 2022/02/22-04:47:36.023 UTC - tcapvalid.34197.01.user30.00133 - 264002: The following Boolean math error has occurred: FSC error "-2000": "ERR_FSC_PROXY_NOT_INITIALIZED" - Connection failures often indicate a problem with the FSC address configuration for in $FSC_HOME/fmsmaster.xml. The address should specify a fully qualified DNS name.. -  - Teamcenter.ConfigurationManagement.VariabilityAdaptorLogger at D:/workdir/tc12302_win64/src/foundation/variabilityadaptor/SAXDataSource.cxx

Solution
The problem is related to the fact that FSC is not configured correctly and the environment variable "TC_USE_FSC_CPROXY_VIA_JVM=true" is used. Customers should not use TC_ USE_FSC_CPROXY_VIA_JVM=true. This will invoke the JNI APIs of FMS which means that the tcserver would have a JVM running inside its process space. There are severe penalties to this since JVM can get pretty large and cause scalability issues. The problem did not occur after removing the variable. NOTE: Setting it to false or some other value is not good enough. The variable needs to be removed from the environment definition.
