This question concerns DPVRTS_Setup_12.5.exe. This question also concerns instructions found in document "deploying_dimensional_planning_and_validation.pdf" pages 14-6 -- 14-10.
During testing of DPVRTS_Setup_12.5.exe, customer is seeing that when the RTS is installed on a computer/server that is in the same domain as the ETL server, it is possible to use the option in the RTS called "Integrated Windows Authentication" in order that the RTS successfully download the device configuration information from the ETL and it is NOT necessary to supply any Username or Password credential set in the RTS panel.
However, if the RTS is installed on a computer/server that is in a different domain than that of the ETL server, successful download of the device configuration information from the ETL only occurs when the option called "Basic Authentication/Teamcenter Security Services(1-Way SSL)" is selected and actual Username and Password credentials are provided in the RTS panel.
Why is it necessary to use Username and Password authentication on a RTS server which has a different domain than the ETL server, but when the RTS server and ETL server are on the same domain, I do NOT need Username and Password credentials and customer can just select the "Integrated Windows Authentication" option in the RTS panel?
Solution
When RTS and ETL machines are in same domain - Integrated authentication to be used. This means User does not need to provide username/password either in RTS or FileUploadGateway. Integrated authentication mechanism will take care of authentication through a policy in domain name server.
When RTS and ETL machines are in different domains or one machine in domain network and other machine in WORKGROUP (not attached to any domain), then there is no trusted way to mutually authenticate. So in this case username/password should be given explicitly, which we are calling basic authentication.
