What is the difference between a Block and a Symbol in a Solid Edge drawing?  Also, how do I insert a Symbol instead of a Block?

Solution

Whilst a Block is a collection of 2D elements or objects that can be selected and referenced as a single entity, a Symbol is an embedded or linked file.  It can be a draft file or a foreign file type that supports OLE (Word, Excel, for example).  You can create a Symbol using drag/drop from the library tab or copy/paste of a supported file type from File Explorer.

If you drag/drop or copy/paste a Draft file, a block will be created by default.  You can change this option by changing the 'Insert Symbol As' type to Link, Embed or Shared Embed.

You can only change this option if Blocks are turned OFF in the Symbol library page.
