Trying to load a study saved the previous day, receiving the message - "The psz file is invalid".
Solution
During the previous save, the temporary copy of the study file lost internal data files. These files could be lost in various ways, one of which is the Microsoft Storage Sense setting. It will delete files in the Temporary folder older than 30 days. When the psz is opened, the information is held in temporary storage until saved again. Certain internal files of a psz are not affected when the psz is saved, so their creation dates can become much older than the current save date of the psz file.
Here is the typical content of a valid PSZ file open in 7-Zip:
If the three selected items (Icons, metadata.xml and StandaloneStudy_EmsState.xml) are missing, then this would be an invalid PSZ.
Process: If there is older copy of the PSZ available, it is safe to take the missing items from that old copy. Just open both the old copy and the corrupt PSZ in 7-Zip, and then drag the missing items from the old copy to the corrupt.
Alternative: This approach is valid only for PSZ files that were created using the New Study command in PS and only in case you have the same study template (.pszt file) from which the corrupt PSZ was created.
Procedure:
1. Create a new study from the same template. 2. Copy the missing file from this new study to the corrupt as described above.
