How do I create a template of a project to be used as a starting point for new projects?
Solution
Creating a custom project for reuse reduces input errors and helps with overall productivity. Below are the steps to create a template Project by defining Project Preferences and Style Sets, along with Properties for the Project, Harness Design, and Wiring Design. You may choose to configure one or all of these, or keep the default settings as needed.
Note: Below each section are screenshots to show where the steps are in the SEWHD browser.
Create a Project to use as a template
Open Solid Edge Wiring and Harness Design
On the Solid Edge ribbon tab, click on the New Project icon to create a new project
Create new designs in the Design Browser portion of the application window. Right click:
on the new project name and select new Wiring Design
on the new project name and select new Harness Design (for harness design, a part number is also required to be entered in the Part Number field to create the design.)
on the new project name and select new Layout Design
Note: For the purpose of setting up your template, each of these designs can to be empty. No design components are needed to define your template preferences and properties.
Project Preferences
Click on the Solid Edge tab in the ribbon and select the Project icon pull down arrow.
Click on Project Preferences to open the Preferences dialog box.
In the Preferences dialog box, set your desired preferences under the General, Harness Design, Layout Design, and Wiring Design.

In the Style Sets dialog box, set your desired preferences under the Harness, Layout, and Wiring sections.
Edit Style Sets will open for the type of diagram open in your design browser. For example, if you have a harness and a wiring diagram open, with the harness diagram being active in your design browser, clicking the Styles icon will open the Edit Styles Sets dialog box for your harness diagrams. To open the Edit Style Sets dialog box for your wiring diagrams, have your wiring design active in the design browser. To open the Edit Style Sets dialog box for your layout diagrams, have your layout design active in the design browser.
Note: For additional help with setting Style Sets preferences, see the Style Sets help section of your Solid Edge Wiring and Harness Design - Diagram Styling User Guide. This guide section can be found by clicking on the Help button in the lower left corner of the Style Sets dialog box.
