A customer received a new server and wants to move their Standard Parts Database to the new server. How to accomplish this?
Solution
The following checklist gives you an overview of what is involved in Migrating Standard Parts to a new server. Use the following guidelines and reference the Standard Parts Installation Guide.
- The easiest way to ensure that already placed Standard Parts inside assemblies are found, is to give the new server the same name as the old server.
- Copy the entire Standard Parts folder structure from the old server to an identically named location on the new server.
- Make sure that location is shared and fully accessible for everybody.
- Install 'Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Express for SE' and 'Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Express LocalDB for SE'.
- Configure it manually for Standard Parts (See chapter 5 in the Standard Parts Installation Guide).
- Using Standard Parts Configuration Wizard (from the machine having the Administrator installed) point to the new Standard Parts location on the new server.
- Click on 'Browse' button for 'Working database'.
- Login to the new SQL server (Username & Password given in Step 5).
- Create a new empty data base for external use.
- Save the settings in the Configuration Wizard.
- Using Standard Parts Administrator add all the parts to the newly created database.
Note:
The main message is one can always create a new database and load the Standard Parts from the Standard Parts folder. The parts and the folder structure own all needed information (like being generated or not).
