Solid Edge Attempt to rename a user variable fails with the message: Duplicate variable name: i1

The user wants to rename an existing user variable named ii1 to i1.  This fails with the message: Duplicate variable name: i1.

Solution

The is working as designed because the variable name i1 is respectively I1 which is already reserved to define the Physical Properties variable for the Principal Moment of Inertia I1.

Similarly, this means that variable names like i2, I2 or i3, I3 (reserved for the other Principal Moments of Inertia) and k1, K1, k2, K1 or k3, K3 (reserved for the Radii of Gyration) are also not available as user variables.

The variable names are not case-sensitive.
