Solid Edge documents stored in Google Drive are not working correctly with Solid Edge data management (SEDM).
How to make Google Drive work with SEDM?
Solution
By default Google Drive is configured with "streaming" mode enabled which in turn creates a virtual G:\ drive folder within Windows Explorer. Streaming mode and this associated G:\ drive cannot be indexed by Windows Search.
Consequently if Windows cannot index the Google Drive data then SEDM will not work correctly.
This can be overcome by changing the Google Drive preferences to use "mirroring" mode.
Mirroring mode will replace the virtual G:\ and instead create a physical folder on your workstation.
With mirroring enabled and a physical folder for the Google Drive data, Windows Search can then index the Google Drive data.
With the Google Drive data now being successfully indexed by Windows Search, SEDM will then work as expected.
