Details

The user wants to remove a device from Layout Design but the message in the SEWHD dialog window states 'Selection contains objects that cannot be deleted'.

Solution

To delete the object select the device and do a Control+Delete. The device will be removed from the face of the diagram, and moved into a folder called Unplaced Devices.

From the  SE Wiring Design User Guide:

Notes and References

The reason the delete is not available is due to the layout being associated and synchronized with the schematic. Once synchronized, a device cannot be simply deleted, and in reality, the user would be unlikely to want it to be fully deleted either.  When the device is placed, and then needs to be removed, the Control-Delete simply places it back in the unplaced status, thus making it available to be placed at a later time as needed.

To truly delete the part, which will delete it from the entire project, the user would delete the device in the schematic, go back to the layout diagram, and select the green circle arrows to re-synch the Layout to the schematic.  The engineer will be prompted with a dialog box to verify the intent. After synching, the deleted device in the schematic will also be deleted from the layout.  This is not the same as simply wanting to remove a device from a Layout that was incorrectly placed though - that would just be a Control-Delete.
