Summary

Details

Some child components are not opened when opening an assembly using "component groups". It happens when the structure of the subassembly changes.

1. Create an top assembly.prt
2. Create sub assembly1, assembly2 and assembly3.
3. Add components to each sub assembly.
4. Create component groups by adding assembly1 & assembly3
5. Open assembly1.prt using "component groups" CompG.
6. All children components in assembly1 are opened.
7. Close All part.
8. Open assembly1.prt
9. Add sample.prt to assembly1.prt
10.Save assembly1.prt
11.Close All part.
12.Open top assembly.prt
13.Open assembly1.prt using "component groups" CompG.
14.Sample.prt in assembly1 isn't opened.

Solution

The component group functionality is behaving as expected, the assembly structure in "Top Assembly" has no knowledge of the newly added component in assembly 1. The component group evaluates itself against the structure as it is known in the assembly, and then those components are opened.

If you wish to ensure that newly added components are loaded when the component group is used,
then you should execute the Update Structure command with Update All levels true, after which the structure in "Top Assembly" will be aware of the existence of the new component and the component group evaluation will include it in the open operation
