Summary

Details

A Solid Edge license file may have a special name such as, for example, "SELicense - 2021-06-11T095832.795.dat" or "ugslmd_NodeLocked_09-Mar-2021 (1).lic".

Can such a license file be renamed by a user without causing problems running the software?

Solution

A license file does not change its internal structure when renaming it or giving it a new file extension.

The file extension will only provide the information that is required for the program to run on a computer once you double click on it in File Manager.  The name itself of a License file is not relevant for Solid Edge.

The recommendation is to give the file the extension ".lic" because this makes identifying a license easier.

The license file itself is simply a Text file  that can be edited and modified with editors such as Notepad or Wordpad.
