Summary
Details
Migration of existing Solid Edge data to Teamcenter is a complex and time consuming process. This document will help you in the process to migrate your generated and used Solid Edge Standard Parts to Teamcenter and build a new Standard Parts database to use the parts.
Prerequisite:
A Solid Edge Standard Parts installation configured to work with Teamcenter.
Process
There is no specific tool to migrate Standard Parts to Teamcenter, but we can use the Solid Edge data preparation tools and AddtoTeamcenter (do NOT use AddtoTeamcenter Interactive!) to load the generated (and used) Standard Parts to Teamcenter. This process has 3 steps:
1) Use the Solid Edge data Preparation Utility to modify the properties .etc. 2) Use Add Teamcenter to upload your Standard Parts to Teamcenter. 3) Create a new Standard Parts Database and import the Teamcenter managed Standard Parts.
This document will not discuss the Data Preparation and bulk load to Teamcenter. This document will only help you to (re)create the Standard Parts Library for Teamcenter managed parts.
Solution
Configuration
In this example I have setup my Standard Parts Database to store parts in Teamcenter using the Item type "Item"
Step 1 - Create a new Database
Open the Standard Parts Administrator. Open the Database Manager (CTRL + D). Use "New" to create a new database in the Standard Parts Administrator Database Manager.
Note: This step is not required but is useful - you can always extend the content when finished.
Step 2 – Copy your Standard Parts
This is an important difference between native and managed: Copy the Teamcenter managed Standard Parts to the ..\Standard Parts\Teamcenter\ folder.
Standard Parts use this folder to store the generated parts and is a backup to re-create your Standard Parts Library. Be careful with this folder, do not delete this and add it to your backup procedure.
Step 3 – Add a single part for testing
Perform a simple test with a single part -> Add Part -> Add From existing Single Part This should add the part in your Standard Parts database with status "generated". You can check with SEEC if this will place the part with the correct Item ID.
Step 4 – Add from existing multiple part files
If all is working fine you can import all parts using Add parts -> Add from existing multiple parts files.
Add the path to the "Teamcenter" folder.
Note: "Include subfolder" will not work in all situations. If you have problem - add path for every category.
Log-in to Teamcenter. Registering parts will start now.
