In Solid Edge Wiring and Harness Design [SEWHD] when you try to open a symbol, a message appears stating "User 'system' has been editing symbol {symbol name} since {date}. Please try again later when the symbol is no longer being edited."
Solution
This message is indicating that a there seems to be a lock on a symbol. This can be caused by exiting the application abruptly. To remove the lock:
- start Solid Edge Wiring and Harness Design 2020
- click the dropdown arrow on the Launch button and select Users...
- see if any locks are listed and clear them.
If you are unable to clear, then try the following:
- Insure that no one is logged into Solid Edge Electrical
- open a DOS command window "as administrator"
- Navigate to C:\Program Files\Siemens\Solid Edge Wiring and Harness Design 2021\bin\
- enter .\electrical.exe -login=true (do not copy/paste this command)
- Solid Edge Ribbon > Launch > Users
> Select the row associated to the user called system
> Select the Clear Locks button
> When prompted, select OK.
