NX for Design
Summary
Details
Sometimes when editing a sketch created in an older version of NX the following message will be displayed.
"This sketch was created using an older version of sketcher. It cannot be edited or renewed currently"
Why is editing the sketch not possible and how can this be worked around?
Solution
In NX versions prior to the NX1980 series, it is not possible to renew and edit a sketch that has subsequently been used in a Mirror or Pattern Feature operation.
If using a version earlier than the NX1980 series there are several workarounds to this:
1) Edit Parameters If the requirement is to only change a parameter / expression value within the sketch then the Edit Sketch command can be used.
This will allow you to Edit the parameters of the sketch without renewing it.
2) Delete and recreate the Pattern or Mirror feature that contains the feature / sketch Once the Pattern or Mirror feature is deleted from the model (suppressing feature is not sufficient) it is possible to edit and renew the sketch using the Renew and Activate command.
The pattern or mirror feature can then be recreated and subsequent edits to the sketch will be possible.
3) Replace Feature in Pattern / Mirror If deleting the pattern or mirror feature is not possible or practical then temporarily removing the feature and/or replacing from the pattern/mirror operation will allow the sketch to be renewed. The movie below demonstrates this process along with the other two methods described above.
The limitation of not being able to edit and renew old sketches that have been used in Mirror or Pattern features has been removed in NX1980 series and later.
